At what age should my child learn to swim?

When to Start Swimming Lessons for Kids.

Many children begin swimming as infants and there is no doubt the water provides a very special experience for the young child. The SwimKidsSwimBabies program begins lessons as young as six-months of age with a parent. Babies under one year often adapt to the water more readily than older children and the weightless environment of the water gives them a great place to exercise their young muscles. Whatever your child’s age, a positive experience in the water gives them a head start on the mastery of water safety skills.

If your child is ever near the water, it is never too early to begin working on their water safety skills. But please remember that just because your child is in swimming lessons does not mean your child is water safe! The safety of your child depends on constant parental vigilance!
